Busy week

My name is Marko Gideon. As communication Officer for World Wide Fund for Nature in Tanzania, working under Marine Programme, this is busy week for me. It is busy week because I got an opportunity to participate in the special training – Investigative Internet Training in Arusha.

Internet has changed the world. Internet has changed journalism. Journalists used to physically find and search for sources of information. But today most of important information can be found on the internet.

This is the reason why MISA-Tanzania Chapter and VIKES (Finnish Foundation for Media and Development) decided to come up with special project to train Tanzanian journalists on how to use internet, especially for fact finding.

This week’s training under the Trainer Peik Johansson from VIKES Finland, involves editors, senior journalists and lecturers from journalism schools in Arusha, Manyara and Kilimanjaro regions to learn the basics of investigative internet journalism.

My expectation in this learning by doing training from Monday, March 17th to Wednesday, March 19th, 2014 is to learn not only the basic tools on investigative online journalism, but also more advanced tools. I expect to scout important materials from this training to be used for updating Swahili materials to be used for local trainings to be held this year in Mara, Rukwa and Kilimanjaro regions and other parts of Tanzania.
